One of our team is prone to being bitten by bugs – comes with living next to a river I suppose!
In her search for natural, additive free products to treat her itchy skin she found 8 great natural skincare ecommerce websites (and hopefully a cure).
We thought we’d share her thoughts…
Natural Skincare Ecommerce Websites Reviewed
Based in Canada Abundance Naturally is “managed by moms who try to balance active lifestyle, healthy living, busy kids and a priority on family”.
Its own brand – Abundance Naturally – is supported by synergistic brands including eco.kid (for children).
Kosmea, Sanctum (for men) and Thursday Plantation.
In some ways there’s a bit too much choice, so it’s not as easy to make the right selection, although there is a massive amount of product information available it becomes a bit overwhelming.
The other downside for UK buyers is that all prices are in Canadian Dollars and there’s no list of stockists – although they do say the products are available in shops.
They are by far the best bloggers of the sites reviewed though!
Our score 7/10
Botanicals based in Leicestershire was established in 2004 by Wendy Stirling after one of her daughters suffered a severe skin reaction to a natural-sounding ‘herbal’ shampoo.
The company’s aim is to provide a range of personal care products which are as close to nature as possible. The range is large and comprehensive.
Information about each product may be found by clicking the “read more” link next to its brief description. This reveals a mass of very useful information – including how the product is formulated and produced – and reviews.
All the products are made in small batches, so Botanicals can’t be found in any high street chain or supermarket – the company just doesn’t have the capacity. However they do supply beauty therapists and some private labels.
The website contains a huge amount of information, but it takes time to find it all. For example, the product drop down list doesn’t categorise by skin condition just by product type, so searching for something suitable for sensitive skin wasn’t as straightforward as other sites.

Faith in Nature
This Lancashire based company – Faith in Nature – aims to make all its products in Britain – and where that’s not possible the company sources ethically and with Fair Trade in mind.
The website’s images are bright and bold, using photographs of plants to illustrate the categories.
We liked the story about the team’s green credentials and the fact that they put people and the environment first – and they’re not cruel to animals.
Shopping is easy, with clear product images and full ingredients listed for each product in a drop down menu, plus user reviews.
It’s also easy to find a local stockist – sometimes you just have to have the product in your hand to make your decision!

Another mother searching for a solution to her daughter’s skin allergies and eczema, Charlotte Vøhtz was unable to find truly natural products gentle enough for her daughter’s sensitive skin. This spurred Charlotte into creating her own organic creams and salves and in 1997 she launched Green People.
Since then the company has been presented with more than 140 awards from various magazines and organisations.
All products are certified organic and contain over 90% active natural and organic ingredients.
Product images are clear and the information about ingredients, what the product is, its benefits and how it should be used is comprehensive. We know the suggestions of Perfect Partners is to encourage us to buy more but we find linking products together is very helpful in deciding what to purchase.
We particularly liked the information about the key plant actives, and that by clicking on the image of the plant it was possible to learn all about why it was included in that product.
Some products even have videos explaining their use and benefits, and all products have a review section.
The “Ask Charlotte” FAQs section is excellent, the blogs are frequent, regular and topical and the plant images are beautiful.
All trade is on-line or by phone, no other stockists.

Natural Health Distribution Ltd
Focussing on Thursday Plantation – The World’s #1 Tea Tree brand, this company’s website is clear and easy to follow if you’ve decided, after all your research, that Tea Tree Oil could be your skin’s saviour!
myCloud Media have worked with the NHD team for a number of years and this great new natural skincare ecommerce website helps to support stockists and consumers alike.
All the information you might need is contained on the specific product page – so you don’t need to click anywhere else to find details on ingredients or usage. The ingredients information tells you what it doesn’t have, rather than what is does, so perhaps that could be a slight downside.
However product images are clear making product selection and on-line shopping straightforward and swift.
We also particularly liked the suggestions of which products to use to complement each other – such as Tea Tree Wash foam and Tea Tree Face Cream.
Our tester is going to give these products a try!

Purepotions in Brighton UK was founded by a mother seeking a cream that would suit her daughter’s severely dry and itchy skin.
The products are made from ingredients that are as close to their natural state as possible in order to reduce the risk of reaction that can occur with highly processed substances.
The website information of why to “go natural” is informative and easy to understand, and there’s heaps of good information available about each product – descriptions, ingredients and usage instructions – with just a mouse click.
We liked the fact that there were so many stockists – even the big High Street chains – and that they had sample packs to buy, so you didn’t have to make an investment into a big pot of something that didn’t work for you!
One slight downside was we felt the imagery wasn’t as clear as on some websites, giving it a slightly “grainy” look.

The Natural Skincare Company
A family business based in Rudgwick, West Sussex, England., the Natural Skincare Company was founded by Amanda McGillivray in 2003.
Its aim is to bring truly natural and organic personal care products to the market. All products are carefully researched and are sourced from around the world.
We like it that Amanda personally tests every product and the comprehensive tabbed information about each product – how to use, ingredients and similar products.
Product segmentation is excellent through the various drop down/scroll across menus, so it was simple to find a product that would be suitable for sensitive skin.
Asking for and publishing reviews is always helpful for the customer, so we found this very useful.
There are also plenty of interesting articles in the website blog as well as videos.
One downside is that although there’s a tab for wholesale, so that other retailers and beauticians can stock the products there doesn’t seem to be a way of finding any local stockists. It is easy enough to buy direct on-line or by phone though.
Big product range, so you should find something to suit you!
Our score 8/10
Trilogy is New Zealand’s number 1 skincare brand, started about 14 years ago by 2 sisters when they discovered the benefits of rosehip oil for skin.
The website is very clean and fresh looking, with a bright accent colour of rosehip red, a key ingredient in their product ranges.
Easy to navigate by skin concern – lines and wrinkles, sensitive and reactive etc as well as by category or range.
We really liked the ingredients information, which is comprehensive and so useful for someone with sensitive skin, and this coupled with a FAQ section really helps with selecting the right product – important as the products are fairly expensive.
Still, they sell a bottle of Trilogy rosehip oil every 22 seconds, so it must be good!
